George Harrison Format: Vinyl Rock DH44 Editorial Review
**** George Harrison's "Cloud Nine" marks a pivotal moment in the artist's solo career, celebrated for its combination of hit singles and philosophical depth, contributing to its widespread acclaim. The standout track, "Got My Mind Set On You," not only achieved commercial success but also introduced Harrison to a new generation of listeners who were unaware of his Beatles legacy, demonstrating the album's crossover appeal. The album features further notable tracks like "The Devil's Radio," which encapsulates profound spiritual messaging without excessive religiosity, and "When We Was Fab," a clever homage to Harrison's Beatles era that revisits the psychedelic soundscape of his past while invoking a sense of nostalgia. Critics and fans alike appreciate the way Harrison skillfully balances his spiritual influences with mainstream pop sensibilities, appealing to a diverse audience. Collaboratively, "Cloud Nine" showcases the impressive talents of a star-studded backing band, including Ringo Starr, Eric Clapton, and Elton John—all of whom enhance the album's rich musical texture. This collaborative effort, alongside Harrison's production mastery and lyrical insight, solidifies "Cloud Nine" as a quintessential representation of his artistic zenith. While Harrison's previous work, "All Things Must Pass," is often regarded as his magnum opus, "Cloud Nine" emerged as a testament to his sustained relevance in the music industry—a signal of growth beyond the shadows of Beatlemania. In the face of changing musical landscapes, Harrison's enduring quality as a solo artist and the emotional resonance of his work shines brightly through this album. **
